The honest version
You can't force it. You can prepare for it.
What you can't force
You can't make someone want recovery. Pushing harder often hardens the no. If they're not ready, this call isn't wasted — it means the groundwork starts now.
What you can do
Remove every obstacle between them and a yes: know the options, have insurance checked, have a bed and a ride ready. When their moment of willingness comes, everything is already in place.
What we do with you
We listen to what's happening, explain the options, and coach you on the conversation — including what to do if they refuse. Family calls are a huge share of how people get here.
Conversation plan
What to say tonight
The conversation matters more than the timing. A few rules that keep it from becoming a fight:
Say things like
- “I'm not angry. I'm worried, and I love you.”
- “You don't have to decide anything tonight. Just talk to me.”
- “I found a place. They can arrange everything — even the ride. I'll handle the details.”
- “If last time didn't work, that doesn't mean nothing works.”
Try to avoid
- Ultimatums you aren't ready to keep.
- Listing everything they've done wrong.
- Arguing about whether it's “bad enough.”
- Having the conversation while they're intoxicated, if it can wait.

Straight answers
The questions people actually ask us
Can I really call about someone else?
Yes — a large share of our calls come from parents, spouses, and family members. We'll listen to what's happening, explain the options, and coach you on how to talk to your loved one. Calling for someone else is often the first step that gets them help.
What if they refuse to go?
That happens a lot, and it's not the end of the road. We'll help you see what you can and can't control, and how to keep the door open. We'll also help you have everything ready for the moment they say yes. Many admissions start with a family member who called weeks before their loved one was ready.
How does insurance work when it's not my policy?
Coverage follows the person being treated. If you can photograph their insurance card, we can check benefits in minutes. If you can't, call anyway — we'll tell you exactly what to gather and what the options are.
Can you pick them up?
Yes. We arrange transport — a ride or a flight — and plan the route, timing, and arrival details in advance, so there are no surprises for either of you.
Will I know how they're doing?
We keep you informed within what your loved one consents to share, and phone contact is available at designated times. We'll explain exactly how that works when you call.
They have a court case. Does that change anything?
No — it's common. Dedicated case managers handle court paperwork and documentation: progress letters, attendance verification, whatever the court or probation officer needs.
You don't have to carry this alone either
